The Guy With Tentacles

Illustrated Night

It was a sunny Monday morning, and I was getting ready for work. I usually wake up early but today for some reason I woke up super late. The view from my apartment balcony looked so stunning. The sky was blue with the sun beaming right across it. As I was rushing from one side to the other side to the other of my apartment to find my car keys, I suddenly noticed that my dog, Charlie, was looking at the bathroom door puzzled and barking.

I walked up the hallway to the bathroom door, only to see an unhappy man with hundreds of tentacles. I was terrified. I had never seen this man in my life. He was tall and looked aggressive. He was bald with thick eyebrows. This man had a huge nose and was overweight. I glanced at him and shut the door. I saw Charlie’s face and saw fear in his eyes. At first, I thought this was a bad nightmare, and decided to open the door. As I reached for the handle, my hands started to shake. I moved the handle clockwise. The door made a screeching noise.

I again saw the man but now he had attacked poor Charlie. I started to run as he came bolting behind me. I was petrified! I had never seen a man with tentacles. As I looked back, I saw blood all over his face, hands and body. I realized that Charlie was eaten by this deadly creature. The thought of this led me to speed up as I was afraid of what may happen to me. I tried to open my main door, but it just wouldn’t open. I heard the man’s tentacles move through the hallway. I ran to my balcony and jumped.

I suddenly woke up on my bedroom floor screaming at my mom. I asked my mom what had happened, and she said that she heard a bang in the bathroom and came upstairs. She didn’t see anything, so she came into my room. She saw me on the floor screaming our dog Charlie’s name out. Then she told me to go wash my face. So, I quickly went to the bathroom and you will never believe what I saw.

Except for the rain that’s been crashing for hours and the house-shuddering wind that howls through the darkness outside, it’s an ordinary evening at your house. Then there is a knock on the door. You’re not expecting anyone. You look through the peephole, but the condensation from the wet night air has fogged it to uselessness. So, you simply open the door and…

I saw a man with a large bag on the porch. He was short and had a beard. He wore a big bag around his body. I asked him who he was, and he said that he was the maintenance guy for the air conditioning. I hadn't called anyone, but he said that it was a free service week. So, I let him in. At first, I was a little skeptical, but my air conditioning wasn’t working that well and I was going to call for service anyway. This man was dark in complexion with alien-like ears. He was half my height, but I am not that tall. He was wearing jeans with a company uniform T-shirt. His bag even had a logo. He asked me where the central remote was and I impulsively passed it on to him. This man had never come to my house and I usually have the same person visit to fix up my AC. I tried to ask him a few questions as I was not sure if he was really a maintenance guy. I asked his name and he answered bluntly. I even asked him about the new offers going on, but he answered by saying that he didn’t know.

He told me that he was new, and the old guy has passed away in an accident. At this point, I got nervous because he knew what had happened to the old guy. I slowly walked to my phone and tried to call 911 but for some reason, it wasn't ringing. I quickly went to the other room where the landline was. I wasn’t being able to breathe now. Everything was fine but I kind of forgot how to breathe. Then I felt like someone was pressing my neck, but I was the only one in that room. I lost control of my body. My legs felt like noodles and my eyes were hazy. I fell on my knees and tried to press the buttons on the phone. My fingers became numb, so I fell on the ground. It was a shadow coming towards the room I was in. The footsteps hunted me. I saw a man coming near me with a knife. He was wearing a mask. He slowly took the knife and put it near my neck. After that, the police busted my front door and saw him. They arrested him and a few years later, the jury's verdict was a life sentence for 15 years. The officials told me that he put something in the air conditioning that was poisonous. I am still paralyzed because of the poison he inserted. That was the scariest day of my life and the last time I walked. I don’t know if I am going to be able to walk ever again. Doctors believe it to be unpredictable.
